Description
This collection of Indian love stories is a rare find. Traditional love stories handed down through families from generation to generation, these heart-warming, and sometimes playful, tales are written in a manner that lets the reader feel as if he were sitting at the feet of an elder.
The lively stories provide authentic glimpses of Native culture, history, and customs from historical periods long past that continue to inform the present. Unlike other folk tale collections, here the emphasis is on love and romance—but always within a cultural context and never sentimental. Although it is difficult to obtain love stories from American Indians, author Herman Grey, an elder from the Mohave tribe, was fortunate to acquire these stories when he was a young man from friends representing various tribes including the Pima, Tohono O’odham, Apache, Hopi and Navajo.
